THE LAST TASK

Today the weather was perfect, with a cloud base at around 2300m. We set the task at 140 km, so the pilots really had to put some effort to make it. Five of the pilots turned all of the waypoints and the race was successfull! At the end of the competition we scored 1117points which was great for only one day of good flying!

In the name of the organizing staff I would really like to thank all of the pilots who participated in the competition. It was a pleasure to have you all here in the Soča walley and I hope the weather will be on our side next year!

SUNDAY

Today it looks like we are going to have a perfect weather! Sun is allready shining and regarding to ARSO it is the inversion just a bit under the starting place, so it can't be better.

SATURDAY

Today we had a flying day and the starting place was Kobala. In the morning the weather looked really good, but when we arrived to the starting place, there weas no sun any more and the east wind was blowing nice. We set the short task of 32 km, because there was no thermals and it was impossible to set longer task. The results are published on the official site.

Ohhhh finaly... We are going to Kobala starting place at 10am, briefing will be at Kobala starting place at 12:00!

FRIDAY

This year the Gods are playing around with the weather and they are not on our side. Yesterday we had the same weather with a lot of rain. For today it looks better, but it is still unstable weather. Eventhough it looks much better and we got some sun shining in the morning, the winds are quite wrong for flying and there are some storms coming in the region in the afternoon.
Today we will stay on the ground. At 5pm you are all very wellcome to join the ceremony going on at the office, again with some foods and drinks from the local region. :)
And don't forget, it is the briefing at 10am.

DAY 3

We still have a bad weather conditions so today there will be no flying.

DAY 2

Today the flying day is canceled, and we all stay on the ground. On briefing this morning we decided to have a worship ritual this afternoon to worship the gods for a better weather... :)
We hope tomorrow the weather will be better.

TASK 1

Because of the bad weather we decided to have the first task in Lijak near Nova Gorica. The conditions were a bit better than in Tolmin, but not good enough for task to be valid, so today doesn't count. Few pilots flew quite far, but with no thermals it was really impossible to reach all the waypoints, eventhough the task was quite short (only 30km).
For tomorrow the weather prediction is really not promising, so it is a big possibility that the pilots will stay on the ground. Anyway, we hope for the best! :)

DAY 1

The decission was made to go to Lijak today. Lets hope for the best winds!
Briefing will be at 11:00 at the office.

First day

Today the weather is not really looking promising, it was also raining through all of the night. The forecast for today is unstable weather, with a chance of rain and storms, but here in the Alps you newer know what it is gona be like. So lets hope for the best!
Pilots can pick up their lunch packs at the office and at 10am we will have short briefing and decide where to go. It is possible to go to Lijak today.

Opening ceremony

It was a nice ceremony, with almost every one joining it. The women part of the Kobala Open Staff prepared some traditional dish, skuta (cottage cheese) and zaseka (minced lard), which turned out to be really appreciated and run out really quickly. :) Thank you all for coming.

Opening ceremony for Kobala open 2014

Dear pilots,
as I see, many of you are already in Tolmin and I hope you are enjoying your time with your friends. We finally await the beginning of the competition, so tomorrow, from 5 till 7:30 pm is the final registration, going on at the office of DPL Posočje at the landing place. This year it is going to be a little different than previous. At 8pm, right after the registrations, we are going to have an opening ceremony going on, with some little things to eat and some little good drops of wine to drink. The ceremony will be just in front of the office, so lets hope the weather will be on our side.

Prepayment reminder

Dear participants, I would like to remind you that there are only three days left (till 1st of August) to claim lower entry fee for Slovenian Open 2014, better known as Kobala Open. Ensure yourself a discount for one week of great competition flying in spectacular and scenic landscape of Soča valley and surrounding Julian Alps.

Slovenian open 2014

So, there are only few days left (august 1st is dead line) to claim lower entry fee for this year Slovenian open! All preparations are well under way - and even weather seems to decided to use all it's bad stuff before the competition starts. We are happy that fair number of pilots signed in, and few top pilots as well - this is always good forecast for good competition.

Price giving ceremony

We had a nice price giving ceremony. We are really happy so many pilots joined us tonight.

1st. place was taken by Franc Peternel (SLO), 2nd. was Jože Frim (SLO), 3rd.was Balazs Ujhelyi (HUN).
1st. woman was Julia Burlachenko (UKR).

We would like to thank everyone for coming and we hope to see you again next year.

 

5th task and price giving ceremony

Today we had 110km long task. Not officially there were around 6 pilots in goal and Franc Peternel flew in first. We are waiting for all the instruments to come to headquarters.
We will publish the results as soon as possible.

   Price giving ceremony will be today (17th Aug. 2013) at 21:00.

Kobala open 5th, last day

Last day of Kobala open, east wind finally died down. We hope for some clouds to appear but in any case we should have a really good day to fly with a long task.
News of Edoardo is that everything is ok, nothing broken, but he stayed in hospital at observation. Whole Kobala team wishes hima fast recovery.

Official transport goes to Kobala at 10, briefing at 12 at take off.

Kobala Open 4th day cancelled

Task was cancelled. Unfortunally Edoardo had a bad launch. We waited for the resque team. Helicopter took him to the hospital in Ljubljana. Organizer cancelled the task at 3:15pm. In the air were only 4 competitors. All other pilots can free fly today
We wish to Edoardo everything best and a speedy recovery.

Kobala open 4th day

We made 110km task today. Pilots will launch at 2:15pm. In the morning was little stronger east wind. But it is coming down, since we can see some of the paragliding pilots goofing in the air.
